Should I Get Another Domain? Will It Increase My
Internet Income?

Will getting multiple domains for my internet business
really make me more money' Well, it depends. There are reasons why you
shouldn't get another domain for your internet business, and there are just
as many why should get many domains for your internet business. (When I talk
about domains, I'm referring to any domain, whether it's a .com, .net, .org,
or one of the lesser-known domains, such as .cc, .tv, .ws, or even .rr.) In
most cases, buying more domains for your internet business will
substantially increase your income. But you have to make sure you follow
through with all the new domains you purchase, and make them legitimate
websites that complement each other.
Why Getting Another Domain Would Hurt You
There are a few reasons why getting another domain might hurt your business,
and you should be aware of why you would not want to get another domain.
Have you built your business around a unique product or service and have
spent a lot of money promoting the name of your website' For example, online
businesses such as www.homegrocer.com, www.priceline.com, www.amazon.com,
have spent millions of dollars, promoting the name (or brand) of their
website, and changing the name or associating another name or "dot com" with
their business would only hurt them. Unless, of course, you look at what
Ebay.com has recently done; they have attempted to move their highly
successful automotive section of their auction website to another domain,
www.ebaymotors.com. Since the word "Ebay" is included in the new domain name,
then most customers associate EbayMotors.com with the highly successful
Ebay.com auction community. For smaller websites, though (those who don't
have millions of dollars to spend on media advertising), branding your
website is not as important than getting quality traffic to your website.
Quality Traffic is What You Really Want
Have you ever gone to a website and upon leaving that website you are
automatically "bumped over" to another website? It happens a lot, and the
webmaster doing this to you is really just wanting more hits on one of their
other websites. Chances are it's a website that they just launched, and want
"instant hits" on their new website, some way of making it look like it's
successful in a short period of time. This new website is not getting
quality traffic, because you didn't click on a banner ad to get to this new
website and you didn't get to it by doing a search at a search engine. Sure
the website is getting hits, but are they really making any money by forcing
you to go to their website? Probably not.
As a webmaster and a business man or woman, you want people who are looking for your product or service to find your website, find what they are looking for, and give you money. That's how you will make money through your website. If you fool them at any time during this process, they will not make you any money. And if you take it one step further and don't provide them with a quality product or service, they will get ticked off at you and will probably end up disputing the charges on their credit card, causing a chargeback and ultimately costing you money in the long run. Getting people who are specifically looking for your product or service to your website is what we call quality traffic. People who will buy. People who will make you money.
Using Another Domain to Produce Quality Traffic
Okay, you've got the perfect website about windmills. You make and sell all
types of windmills, mostly windmills that have pumps. Your ideal buyer is a
Texas Rancher who has thousands of acres and wants to harness the wind to
pump water for his livestock. Sure that's pretty specific, and not everyone
who you could send to your website will be able to buy one of these types of
windmills. You certainly could make some webpages, get them listed in the
search engines, and get college students to come to your website. And you
might be able to get 50,000 hits a day to your website. Even if college
students had the money to spend on a windmill, they wouldn't have any place
to put it, so they probably wouldn't buy a windmill at your website. How do
you really increase quality traffic to your website and get those Texas
Ranchers to your windmill site' Get another domain and build another site
might just be the answer!
Texas Ranchers don't have a lot of time to be on the internet. They need to be out on the ranch tending to their livestock or fixing a barbed wire fence. When they do get online, they want a place to get the information they need, find the products or services they need at a discount, and find other Texas Ranchers they can talk to about their business. So why not provide that to them? Why not get another domain and build a place where Texas Ranchers can go and talk about their business and network with other Texas Ranchers? Providing this community website would cost you some money to build and maintain, but you would have the control over the ads on the website. A perfect place for advertising your windmill business! The ultimate goal is to create a community, or create another website where your ideal customer would visit regularly. Eventually they might need a windmill. And if they ever do, they'll certainly know where to get one.
Building a Community is Only One Way
If your website is a comedy-related website (perhaps you sell gag gifts),
then build another joke-related website. People who like reading jokes will
probably be interested in buying a gag gift. And how difficult would it be
to build 5 joke websites? Probably not that difficult. Just think, you could
build a website for different 'categories' of jokes. For example, a blond
joke website, an ethnic joke website, a political joke website, a pun
website, and a country music joke website might be only a few that you could
create. And they all could have banner ads on them, advertising your gag
gift website.
Building a website where people who are your ideal customers like to visit is the goal. Once you have them, you've got them. You can advertise your other websites, as well as your online business. And building a sense of community where you help web surfers out will keep them around. And keeping them around will eventually turn them into buyers. You could spend a lot of time building and promoting your current online business, hosted on only one domain. But creating a sense of community, a place where you can pull in those visitors that are your ideal customers, would ultimately help your online business. Building more websites, getting more dot coms that are related to each other, will definitely help your online business. As long as they're related in some way, ultimately based on the type of quality traffic that you're seeking.
